Review of Inside Deep Throat (2005) by Adam C — 17 Jan 2008
This was an interesting documentary about "Deep Throat," that serves as commentary on sexuality and the sexual liberation in the U.S., the formation of the adult film industry and yet had drama in the form of sadness as to how Harry Reems, Linda Lovelace and the director's lives turned out as a result of the film.
The film is estimated to have made $600 million, yet the people involved in making the movie never saw more than $1,200 as payment for making the film. The documentary also explores the cultural war that began to hit the mainstream in the 1960s and that we're still fighting today as well as questions of what is obscene and why is the government trying to control what I watch? The film also has interviews with not only the people who lived through it, but pop culture icons of the times, Norman Mailer, Dick Cavett, Hugh Hefner, sex therapists, Dr.
Ruth and several women from the feminist movement in the 1970s.
