Review of Inland Empire (2006) by Jaymee F — 15 May 2010
Not one of my favourite Lynch films but one of the best cinema experiences i've ever had. You'll either love it or hate it. It's only human to try to make sense of it but I'd say you will get much more out If you just let it take you.
Be passive and let it run though your mind like an epic dream instead of trying to wrestle it down with logic and reason - you will never win! I admit there are things in the film I could relate to and I understood certain things he was exploring, familiar themes in his work but ultimately what I love about this sort of film, why I fell in love with eraserhead is the unpredictable ride and the beautiful mystery that is always just out of reach.
That is why I love Lynch. He is one of the few directors out there that doesn't want you "to get it", not completely, that's the last thing he wants. He dwells in the unknown, that is where fear and wonder come from.
When you enter true lynch territory, you are falling helplessly down the rabbit hole.
