Review of Inland Empire (2006) by Eric A — 08 Jan 2009
Lynch requires patience. Usualy because you have to work through all of his devices before you can see the movie. Many times the experience is rewarding, being entertaining at the very least, but here it is anything but.
This is a mess. Three hours for what could have been done in far less and on digital video no less. A three hour long movie can be a chore but when it looks like it was shot with a digital camera it is very nearly torture.
For those who aren't :ynch fans, I couldn't be more ardent in my advice when I say to skip this. You WILL hate it. There is no maybe here. This won't win you over like some of his other work will.
Blue Velvet this isn't. I have to suggest that fans stay away too. Lynch is capable of being so much more than this. He has presented and defended his work in such a way that he is almost impervious to critique but I have to draw the line when he says that this is his best looking movie.
This is a long and ugly disapontment. My least favorite of his theatrical films.
