Review of Inland Empire (2006) by Alif M — 23 Apr 2009
Surprisingly more coherent than I was initially led to believe, which isn't saying much considering it is still the most surreal and Dadaistic Lynch flick thus far (with the exception of Eraserhead, which I have yet to watch).
Frequently unsettling in its confusing -- and sometimes horrifying -- non sequiturs and phantasmagoria, our reaction is exactly the same as lead actress Laura Dern's through out the movie; facial contortions of fear, befuddlement and nervous amusement.
All the strangeness lead up to a completely cathartic end and suddenly the bad acid trip that was the movie is euphoric.
