I think that there must be an independent experimental film checklist...and that David Lynch owns the master copy. I like some of his work...a good portion in fact. I never truly understand his films, but I usually like them.

Inland Empire ticks every box of the indie experimental film checklist. Conversations that go nowhere with awkward slow pauses? Check. Characters that blankly stare off into nowhere? Check. Bizarre Images? Check.

Incomprehensible and Incoherent Storyline that pretends its got a deeper meaning? Check. Characters spouting off some tale from long ago to another character created to say absolutely nothing but listen? Check.

A Cast that wants to be in non commercial films to show they are "real actors" but look bewildered through the entire process? Check. All of this with a "movie stars fall for each other and have an affair" plot line thrown in.

..leaves me to say this: had anything in this movie been new I might have liked it, but everything had been done somewhere else before. David Lynch, why not try something you haven't done 8 times before already?
