Review of Inland Empire (2006) by Roland S — 13 Jul 2009
Wow. I am writing this review upon my first viewing of the film so maybe I am being a bit to generous concerning the rating I gave it but I strongly think otherwise. It's films like this where the use of non-linear plot, and very awkward cinematography and editing seem like they should be the "norm" of todays and yesterdays cinema rather than looked down upon or criticized as "a bunch of different events and scenes thrown together.
" Of course this film is very hard to follow and I would suggest possibly reading the broad plot of the film and maybe some information on the director before viewing. Before I watched this I read the basic plot which gave me an idea of what was going on while I was viewing the movie however I kind of wish I hadn't just so I could see if I would be able to even catch on one bit.
Even then there are many, many events that took place in this movie where I honestly did not know what was going on. However, many of these events did turn up later in the film revealed as something else then how they were first expressed.
Even though this is true there were STILL parts that seemed completely out of the plot but that seemed okay because maybe they really weren't if you thought a bit deeper which is all you really had to do to possibly connect it with something that happened perviously in the movie.
Only one person could have made this movie and although I see this as one of those movies that all aspiring filmmakers should see in order to maybe feel better about their futures, no one should even try to create something like this.
Impossible. The events never get old. The story continues from beginning to end. This is something to see.
