Review of Inland Empire (2006) by Kok F — 29 Dec 2009
While many struggles to explain why they chose video format, Inland Empire speaks for its director.
While many struggles to portrait the fantasy of fictional world vs. real world, Inland Empire does that naturally. It does that so unbelievably natural, that even outperformed Lynch own masterpiece Mulholland Drive at this matter.
Perhaps this is the most difficult film of Lynch. However, if you carefully ride through the entire 3 hours of craziness, you'll find Lynch never even try to hide anything from you. He unsealed everything you need to know to understand his film. The story is complete and understandable. However, the story is not static and absolute but dynamic and alive. The story is dynamically attaches to one's own mind.
