Review of Inland Empire (2006) by Will D — 12 Feb 2012

I liked Mulholland Drive so much because although I don't know exactly what happens (who does?), there are distinct, powerful messages contained in it. This one has the same black hole structure but this time I couldn't for the life of me figure out anything about what it's saying. These 3 hours don't fly by like Lord of the Rings or The Godfather... it's a gruelling film that unfortunately starts to collapse under its mysteries.

There are times when it cottons on to something interesting, only to forget about the interesting thing to look intently at something dull. That said, it is a technical masterpiece, thoroughly unpredictable and Laura Dern shows how wonderful she is as an actress.
