Review of Inland Empire (2006) by Rash H — 02 Jun 2012
Imagine being mind fucked in an alley for two hours. Imagine that the phallic realization jamming into your brain is so incomprehensible but so interesting you sit through it anyways. Inland Empire is not the same puzzle Mulholland Drive was, whose film noir element was the driving tone for the film.
What is similar to Mulholland Drive is we as viewers see Lynch applying an emphasis on the nature of acting itself and therefor of film.
The lead in "Inland Empire" attempts to get a role, but during the auditioning has plunged into a surreal nightmare. The editing, shot by shot, becomes less linear and the plot gets muddled but this is a deliberate Lynch device in film. Worth a watch as an art project, but chances are you will not be making this date movie.
Oh, for fans of big bunnies!!!!
