Review of Inland Empire (2006) by Seanu — 13 Dec 2006
Really deep, challenging, unpredictable, slow-moving and almost sleep-inducing, nerve-rattling at other times [my girlfriend said that she didn't remember the last time she covered her eyes at a scary film] and ultimately the most jarring thing I've seen in a long time.
I'm not a complete believer in Lynch's 'so personal it's indecipherable' style shift - I still think Blue Velvet is his best work yet - but this is hard to top in terms of mood, honesty and, above all, a bizarre world that is summed up with Lynch's "GIRL IN TROUBLE" mantra.
I saw him present the film and that statement is how he himself summed up the entire film. Amazing stuff.
