Review of Inland Empire (2006) by Tracyr — 10 Feb 2007
Sure he's brilliant and even his crap is a lot better than many people's finest efforts. Some incredibly compelling scenes, totally exquisite at moments, but just not enough effort to frigging communicate and leaves the audience to do too much of the work.
That's what the director is for and all the gee whiz visual effects don't cover it up. Maddening in a way, because he has proven what a terrific albeit non-narrative story teller he can be when he wants to be.
But this one, however intermittenly entertaining, doesn't offer enough to justify the effort of watching it.
