Review of Inkheart (2008) by Andrew C — 31 Jan 2010
I like the idea of the powers of a "Silver Tongue" but the concept seems to have a lot of holes in it that I knew they would never try to explain. This would probably go over much better for younger children that don't think to much about what they are watching. It's not that it was a bad movie, but like I said the "powers" just raise way too many questions.
All the acting and scenes were good, but the movie was not what I was expecting at all. From the previews I got the idea that Brendan and his family would get stuck in a book and I don't know maybe have a backpack of books with them that they would use to survive and travel through this fictional world they were trapped in. Possible to get back some object or specific book that a villain took, which they needed to get back to the real world. Which actually would have worked out much better and filled in some of those power potholes.
So you don't really get to see that many fictional characters brought to life, and the ones you do see don't do anything. It looks like the majority of the computer graphics was put into the two scenes they showed in the preview (the tornado from OZ and the Shadow from Inkheart) which were both done really well.
