Review of Inkheart (2008) by Phil S — 13 Apr 2010
Good fun breezy family adventure, with a great cast and nice fun idea. The central concept is very interesting, special people with the ability to read and make real the content of books, although it doesn't bear up to close scrutiny (why doesn't he just read out a superhero, or an army to flatten the badguys? And what if you accidentally read out the bad side effects on a bottle of pills?).
But still, its good fun, perhaps the list of fantastical characters is a bit short, probably due to copyright and budget I'd guess.... Andy Serkis is solid as the villan, if a little under used, Brendan Fraser is.
..well....there...Bettany always watchable.. There's a quality final confrontation, with 'the shadow' being a highlight to a list of impressive effects. All in all, not bad.
