Review of Inherit the Wind (1960) by Bill W — 09 Dec 2007
A vital film to watch, discuss and compare with what really happened in the Scopes trial. This was a popular Broadway play and most watched film on airline trips in the early 60's. Unfortunately it plays loose with the facts and in my opinion does a grave injustice to the complex issues by caricaturing the famous participants.
Still, it is great drama. See Philip Johnson's Darwin on Trial that has a whole chapter devoted to how this movie (mis)represents and reinforces the stereotypes.
