Review of Inherent Vice (2014) by Hunter B — 11 Jan 2015

Aside from good acting and writing, Inherent Vice is a nonsensical mess that winds up being a waste of time. Too many characters, plots, and subplots are introduced for anything to make much sense. Couple that with the fact that more than a few characters mumble their lines and you have a movie that is hard to follow, at first, and then just a mess.

I haven't read the source material, this could be a decent adaptation. However, that doesn't make it a good movie. Some books just aren't possible to transfer to film and still be able to satisfy both audiences.

All in all, Inherent Vice had a lot of potential. Some may more meaning to it than I. Some may even enjoy it more than I. I did not enjoy this film very much. Make your own decision on how to approach it.
