Review of Inherent Vice (2014) by Jeff H — 13 Jan 2015
Not P.T. Anderson's finest hour, but definitely worth a watch. Admittedly confusing and convoluted, this movie remains very faithful to Thomas Pynchon's novel of the same name. Anderson does an excellent job of placing you in Doc's permanently stoned mindset, and the narrative hazyness only drives this feeling home.
The humour comes in spurts, but the biggest laughs are owed to Bigfoot Bjornsen (Josh Brolin) who completely dominates the screen. If you are a fan of cohesive, cookie-cutter storytelling, this movie is not for you.
Otherwise, give it a try. You might love it.
