Inherent Vice is two hours too long and feels like it was written by a doped-up surrealist with a poor grasp on the English language. Beyond its clunky script, the plot isn't convincing and the PTA-typically gorgeous cinematography isn't enough to make up for how *weird* everything is.
Unless you're a big fan of PTA, you probably will leave wondering what the hell you just saw and how to get those three hours of your life back. However, the great acting, appropriate humor, and lovely visuals make it worth a watch for the cinephile on the go.
