Review of Inherent Vice (2014) by Joe K — 14 Jan 2015
The simplest of simple stories is made pretentiously complicated by cramming so many ridiculous side-plots and stupid characters that the whole movie feels as incoherent and derivative as some pot-addled hallucination.
The narrative has the tensile strength of reheated spaghetti, the dialogue sounds like someone trying to write a ransom note using nothing but fortune cookie messages, and the plot has all the pacing of an Eric Clapton song.
Paul Thomas Anderson, how could you do this to me?
