Review of Inherent Vice (2014) by Jonny P — 02 Feb 2015
Let's be totally honest: Inherent Vice is a bit of a confusing film on first watch. Doc Sportello's investigation into the disappearance of his ex-old lady and her lover spirals into a major conspiracy theory that sometimes comes across as one big drug-induced paranoia trip, and the non-stop delivery of baffling dialogue can leave some (read: me) rather lost at times.
However amidst this is some stand out performances, especially from Joaquin Phoenix as the film's lead, and some entertaining dialogue. This movie has all the potential to be a future cult classic - incredibly misunderstood now, but likely to find more appeal once people can break through the dense story being told.
