Review of Inherent Vice (2014) by Steven B — 22 Feb 2015
This long and complicated mystery is up for best adapted screenplay. It is adapted from a Thomas Pynchon novel and if you've ever read a Pynchon novel you'l appreciate how difficult that is; probably why this is the only movie ever from a Pynchon novel.
Joaquin Phoenix is always terrific and Josh Brolin was perfect as the disturbed (and disturbing) cop. This is a very colorful and wacky movie; maybe some of the references from the 1960s were a bit obscure, but not if you are in my age range.
Lots of great performances here and a good, if difficult to follow, story. No complaints really, just a tad long and the climax seemed a bit stretched out to me. See it if you get a chance.
