Review of Inglourious Basterds (2009) by Connor D — 01 Nov 2013
Unfortunately I didn't know if Quentin Tarantino wanted to entertain me with this movie or engage me. the first scene was very serious, tragic and engaging but literally the very next scene we are supposed to be laughing and be entertained as we are introduced to the basterds.
from then on, Tarantino sticks to that same pattern for pretty much the rest of the movie. I love Tarantino's movies but I just don't think he was able to find the right balance of engaging and the entertaining on this one.
this movie had some great performances and some powerful scenes, but I think its Tarantino's messiest movie to date. on the other hand, I thought Django unchained did not have these problems and was just as good as pulp fiction.
I bring up Django unchained because people like to compare these two movies all the time.
