Review of Inglourious Basterds (2009) by Sandra V — 04 May 2014
This is a tour de force of the kind Tarantino hasn't really delivered since Pulp Fiction. An eccentric bunch of characters you enjoy spending time with, long scenes which mostly consist of reams of witty dialogue and wordplay, violence so extreme it verges on parody and multiple plot strands that eventually converge in an over-the-top showdown.
Pitt is hilarious as the redneck Aldo Raine, but Waltz makes the most of the larger-than-life villain Tarantino has gifted him and walks away with the film. Bravura and confident filmmaking, but this film won't win Tarantino any converts.
