Review of Inglourious Basterds (2009) by Frank V — 21 May 2014
Quentin Tarantino's Inglorious Basterds is a movie that among one of the best he's made. The film is riddled with slow building tension that's key to a Tarantino film, and really is what Tarantino does best.
Scenes like the opening, the bar, or the dinner are long lasting and won't die off in your memory anytime soon. And the movie holds onto the mix of intensity and comedy that is omnipresent in most of his films.
Brad Pitt leads in one of the best roles I've seen him in, but is topped by the scene-stealer Christoph Waltz, who plays the ruthless 'Jew Hunter' Col. Hans Landa. Through and through there isn't a sore link in the acting, and through and through there aren't any sore points at all.
The film slows down in the middle, but it has to and still holds a firm grasp on the viewer's attention. 5/5.
