Review of Inglourious Basterds (2009) by David B — 11 May 2013
Is it better than Pulp Fiction? No! Does it derserve an Oscar? Yes. Quentin is back to his old self, this is a huge improvment to his great stunt work but boring Death Proof. This is a great film, with great dialog and realism, mainly that it's not in English but fluent German and French, makes to the story so real.
The tension scene at the beginning, the guessing card game/face off...this is why Quentin is a great writer, let alone director. The one that does stand out is Christoph Waltz, he is an amazing actor and fully deserved his Best Supporting Actor Oscar.
If you loved Tarantino's work, your gonna love this. This is top notch filming at it's best. I cannot wait for his next film. The faith is back and is way better than his disappointing Death Proof.
Also and I always say this in his film reviews is that his gift is bring out the best of his cast, no matter how big or small. Brad Pitt is strangely good and look out of a special guest appearance of Mike Myers.
Can't wait for his next film....(That's Tarantino not Myers lol). Great own twist to an actual war to make it his own. History it's not but then that's the beauty of film, he writes what he wants.
