Review of Inglourious Basterds (2009) by Allen G — 23 Jun 2013
There are screen Nazis, and then there's Christoph Waltz's smooth-talking, calabash-smoking "Jew Hunter" Hans Landa . An inventive tweak on the stern movie caricatures of SS officers, Landa uses his sunny disposition as a smoke screen; the way he toys with a French farmer while slowly tightening the noose is both funny and absolutely chilling.
At the start of Inglourious Basterds, few people knew who Chrisoph Waltz was. But by the end of the movie they would never be able to forget him.
Nearly every scene featuring Waltz's character(Hans Landa) is worth mentioning, he's just that good but the opening scene gets the nod. This scene allows Landa(Waltz) to show off his mastery of several languages.
This is a brilliant film and probably Quentin Tarantino's best!!
