Review of Inglourious Basterds (2009) by Adam K — 06 Jul 2015
This movie is a classic Tarantino romp; one which I thoroughly enjoyed.
It may not be everyone's cup of tea as there is a lot of dialogue - some completely pointless, as with most Tarantino films - and a lot of subtitles (more than I had anticipated).
I mentioned the dialogue; I hear a lot of complaints about Taratino's dialogue and although OTT it is very entertaining and one thing I do love about his films.
There isn't as much action as I expected; it's actually a very heart felt tale - concluding with Tarantino's destruction focused endings.
On the one hand there is the tale of the Basterds which is brutal and amusing at times; but on the other there is the tale of Shosanna - brilliantly portrayed by Mélanie Laurent - a young Jewish girl whose family was killed by the Nazis.
Overall, a very entertaining film which manages to capture the darkness of the times while providing us with a brilliant concoction between fact and fantasy.
