Review of Inglourious Basterds (2009) by Joseph G — 01 Nov 2015
Could this be Tarantino's best film beside Pulp Fiction? It's hard to rate and I'm sure depending on personal preference everyone has their list of favorites. I feel that this film has such a high level of refinement, brilliantly shot, incredible amount of built tension throughout the film, and all the Tarantino staples.
... Amazing story, dialogue, quirky music and titles etc.... So many shots throughout the film leave such an impression. If I could I would take screen shots of the scenes and have them framed as art. I've watched this film a dozen times over the years and every time I am filled with the same amount of angst as if it were the first viewing.
There are no wasted or flat scenes in this film, every move has such great intention and attention to detail. Christoper Waltz ( Col. Hans Landa) steals the show in every scene with an amazing ability to be charming and inquisitive, then turn his expression to one of absolute dread.
Finally, can't we sum up Tarantino and this film in the same characterization of Col. Landa, funny and charming at times, with a serious dose of insanity.
