Review of Inglourious Basterds (2009) by Connor L — 22 Dec 2015
Much better than I initially made it out to be when I first saw it. This movie is truly a collaborative affair from everyone. If the movie doesn't draw you in by the first sequence I guarantee you won't like the movie at all then.
The movie has a lot of dialogue and half of it is spoken in different languages as well. The performances are spot on from Brad Pitt's stoic and commanding Aldo Raine to Melanie Laurent's calm and reserved, vengeful Jew Shosanna Dreyfus.
Christoph Waltz does his best but unfortunately I do believe his performance is a slight bit overrated. This movie is far more restrained than other films of Tarantino and might be the reason why some people didn't respond well with it on first viewing like myself.
The movie has enough intricate twists, storytelling jabs, great music and delightfully witty and dangerous characters to keep you entertained. Good job Quentin!
