Review of Inferno (2016) by Edward C — 06 Nov 2016
Spoiler Alert!
I'll preface this by saying I read the book. I can understand how some plot points in a book are hard to translate, however this was a cop out on the screenplay writers. To anyone who saw this movie and was truly interested to how this was supposed to end please read the novel. They twisted the love interest. They turned the misunderstood heroine into a villain. They ruined the ending. The beauty of the ending of the original story was that overpopulation which is a serious problem is solved in a manner that did not include the death of millions. The solution that seemingly cruel was brilliant in the book and I wish the producers of this film would have been brave enough to convey that message. I know critics complain about Tom Hanks being lackluster however he played the role given to him. Unlike other films where Langdon has all his senses, he was truly fighting against a serum that had temporary neurological side effects. He was supposed to seem befuddled. I felt the female role was more uninspiring. I feel they took the cheap route with this film and I'm sorry that Ron put his name on it.
