Review of Inferno (2016) by Chiek E — 26 Aug 2017
Dante, if he was alive to see this film, would probably choke from disgust at the misuse of his classic Divine comedy depicting hell, purgatory and paradise. Cannot agree more with the critics that the the endless running for their lives by professor Langdon (tired looking Tom Hanks) and pretty young sidekick just didn't excite.
Just tedious. A gross travesty, to attempt to capitalise on the mystic of Dantes Inferno because Langdon and her side kick's had good knowledge of Botticelli's drawing of Dante's nine levels of hell so that they could spot the extra alphabets added to the drawing.
But perhaps the film was not entirely lost if the audience would come away wanting to get to know Dante's The Divine Comedy, considered one of the greatest piece of literature on the human condition in the present life and also the after life.
Another saving grace of this Landon adventure, like the earlier two, we get to see exciting historical landmarks. For this film, it is the gilded temple Hagia Sophia of Instanbul. Fleeting glances on the exterior and interior.
Just magnificent.
