Review of Infernal Affairs (2002) by Cem "Regi" "Pixelmannen" . — 15 Oct 2008
Excellent cop/crime thriller with a shakespearian tragedy-esq narrative. This film is pure poetry from start to finish, and although it has a few slightly cliche film techniques (overuse of repetition and occasionally feels like an MTV music video) the depth of the story and characters more than makes up for it.
This was remade into the vastly sub-par The Departed which turns the complex characters into black/white stereotypes and replaces a lot of the subtlety of the original with a typically hollywood 'epicness' (despite having a great cast and a normally excellent director).
Also check out the sequel, Infernal Affairs 2, which fleshes out the story and characters even more.
