Review of Infernal Affairs (2002) by Elodie B — 06 Apr 2009
I was surprised by how much I preferred this over "The Departed.".
The screenplay spends most of it's length asking you to draw your own conclusions about the characters based on visual clues, as opposed to endless speeches from the leads whining about their strained lives as undercover operatives.
The word of the day: Subtlety.
Ultimately, I think it was the ending that really worked for me. As the bodies pile up at the end of "The Departed" it seems a bit hamish. Infernal's ending - while it may leave you squirming a little with unease as the credits roll - just feels right after some reflection.
