The best work of Wai-keung Lau, and the best HK product all these years. Hongkong enjoys a long history of making gangster movies, especially at the 90s. Maybe we can't recall any of them after this one. Truely, after this one, HK movie is experiencing an embarrassing time. No matter how picky you can be, this one is going to persuade you with almost perfect plots and flawless performances. HK actors hold a kind of special quality,showing out exactly in this type of movies, can't be copied by the ones from any other places.
The most complicated thing is the simplest, and the simplest is the most complicated. We are going to read the inside fightings of each, from eyes, from gestures, but not from what they do. They cover themselves to suvive,while trying their best to be who they are. The conflicts are very tense and direct.
Anyway, if you can, watch this one first, then go to the third, then the second.
