Review of Infamous (2006) by Jon S — 14 Jan 2008
A very good film in its own right. However, since it was released at nearly the same time as "Capote" critical writing has centered around a comparison of the two movies. This is unfair since they are different stories.
"Infamous" was based on a biography of the Capote by George Plimpton while "Capote" is based on Capote's novel In Cold Blood. The faux-interview segments weakened the movie and were unnecessary.
Capote's character was fully and sufficiently fleshed out by Mr. Jones' performance. The execution scene was filmed brutally realistic and will have a lasting impact on my psyche. This is a movie that expertly depicted a range of complex human emotions.
