Review of Indie Game: The Movie (2012) by Daniel P — 16 Jan 2013
This is a must for all who love games, especially retro platformers. Tells it like it is. It is very interesting to see the perspective of developers who grew up on the original first era of mass market gaming (nintendo 8-bit, genesis and super nintendo).
Being a retro gamer myself, I personally agree with them halfheartedly on their approach of modern games, like Halo Reach or Modern Warfare 3. Platforming games are classic and they are insanely hard to conquer.
I will definitely pick up award winner Braid and Pez, (if it ever comes out). The single developer of Pez is the like of a wood chipper. He keeps going back and fine tuning it over and over. Especially in the pixel art region.
He's been on Pez for 4 years now completely alone. The sacrifice of a programmer attempting to achieve their dreams is immense. No social life. Broke as hell. On the edge of losing one's mind.
I won't give away too much on what happens :-).
