Review of Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (1984) by Paul P — 01 Jan 2013
Set before the events of Raiders, this sequel is a solid follow up which suffers from a weaker plot.
Taking the plot weaknesses aside, this film is ultimately a lot darker than Raider's especially when insde the temple. Whilst this is the case, the spirit and tone of the film are great, the action (which is relentless) is well played out and has some of the most impressive sequences committed to film, with the mine shaft race towards the end in particular showing what can be done when you have a master at work.
Castwise, Ford is on great form (as expected and is ably backed up by Jonathan Ke Quan as Short Round (their chemistry is terrific). The weak spot for me inthis film is Kate Capshaw. She is in the film to provide some comic releif (which she does pretty well at times), but she is also pretty annoying and spends most of her time screaming which is tiresome.
A worthy follow up to Raider's which is no bad thing...
