Review of Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (1984) by Ricardo E — 30 May 2014
Many believe a sequel must have everything that worked in the original film without making it too obvious, though. The first one is so perfect that whatever would've followed was doomed. Lucas' personal life at that time (just divorced from Marcia Lucas) was a blessing for moviegoers.
Temple of Doom departures almost completely from Raiders. Starts out before the events of first film with a Busby Bekerly kind of musical number. Indy shows up like Bogart in Casablanca in a masterfully executed opening scene.
From that moment on, it's a roller coaster ride, literally. 30 years later, the mine car chase still amazes me and what can I say about that dinner at the palace. Pure fun with snake surprise and chilled monkey brains.
