Review of Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (2008) by Ben H — 18 Nov 2014
It's not bad but it isn't excellent either. It's an Indiana Jones film, everything from tone, storyline and music is quintessentially classic Indy. The new age CGI is questionable however, and the occasional lens flare is a little ugly and distracting.
The science fiction aspect is probably the most debated element of the film, but it arguably fits in with the fantastical paranormal themes in the previous films. If Harrison Ford isn't too busy with Star Wars Episode VII, I'd like to see a prequel set back in WWII with CGI reminiscent of that used in Tron Legacy to de-age Ford to his youthful years.
Still, it was an entertaining film but Lucas seemed to have a greater influence on this one than the others in the series.
