Review of Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (2008) by Tristan M — 19 May 2015
It wasn't a bad idea to try and reboot one of cinemas most famous franchises. Unfortunately the attempt simply didn't work, not because of anything that would usually plage a remake but because of the treasure they are searching for.
It starts off with a battle with some Russians, who take over as the bad guys from the Nazis in the originals, and do a fine job. The same punch effect is used over and over, as is many gun sounds, and it amazes me how the soldiers can hit any object around Indy, except him.
This is to be expected but it's way worse than the other Indy movies. So much is simply to dumb now, jumping a car off a cliff, into a tree, which sags into the lake below for them to escape! Wow it's going to far now.
Also the giant ants, that literally cover people and carry them into their nest, the traps, Mutt swinging through the jungle on vines with a bunch of small monkeys that attack the Russians... No thanks.
And finally there's the skull itself, and alien skull, that is magnetic, turns you crazy if you look into it's eyes, is just the dumbest artifact that Indy has ever searched for and should never have been in this film in the first place.
The other artifacts he has searched for in the past have all been a little questionable in my opinion, as I'm not a fan of the special powers of the rocks or cup of Christ, but this is way to far.
An alien spaceship, the treasure is knowledge now, the skeletons of crystal, takes this once successful franchise to the opposite side of the list. Above that we have crappy CGI, boring effects, and weak humour.
It's kinda amusing I guess to say the least, but would have done the franchise better if it was skipped. Also what is the deal with Mac his story is way to confusing and after watching this movie to many times I still don't know what exactly he is doing or who he's working for.
