Review of Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (2008) by Matthew D — 12 Dec 2017
Movie Matt here with Indiana Jones and the Kingdom Of the Crystal Skull, the fourth & maybe last film of the saga. After The Last Crusade came out, the franchise went doremat since 1989. A TV show on ABC was made to keep audiences interested but it was a failure.
The film's not bad, it's just freaking weird. Rather than going for the action/adventure part the first three had, this film opts for a more science fiction aspect & since the first three were inspired by the 1930s Republic serials, this film took its' inspiration from the 1950s Sci-Fi B movies.
The cast was great as Harrison Ford (reprising the lead) shows he still has it but was more subdued here than in the previous films. It's generally a hit & miss with this line-up Ford spearheads this time.
Spielberg also shows he still has it by directing similar to how he did in the first three & having his DP light the film similar to how the first three were lit. Indiana Jones 4 is, I like to call it, a timewaster & believe me, it shows because the story starts immediately, no cold open or anything & I think that was a drawback the first three had & why they were longer to begin with.
It's one good romp for the fans & my sources tell me a fifth film is in the works. Hopefully, if it is, I'll pay & see it.
