Review of Independence Day (1996) by Priscilla S — 04 Jul 2012
One of the best summer blockbusters of all time. Saw bits and pieces of it throughout the 4th of July this year which was such a tease, then went home to re-watch it from the top. This movie has everything you could want.
Sure, it's pretty cheesy, but it's a quick and extremely entertaining two and a half hours with some great lines sprinkled throughout. Even though the plot is not incredibly complex, it still competently balances all of the characters stories.
And the presidents speech before the big battle, whew, that's as rousing as 'corny-pump-up-the-troops' speeches come! For me this movie is a classic; I remember seeing it with my family the day it came out, waiting in the massive lines to get our seats, and being so elated once it was done.
It was a great time then and it still is now.
