A moderately enjoyable alien sci-fi flick that has typical characters and a pretty standard plot.
The SFX are superb (even by today's standards) and really keeps the film above meh. There are some great scenes the white house destruction and the hilarious "Will Smith punches an alien" scene. The battles are some what enjoyable if predictable and the solution to the alien problem is uninspired and though supposedly war of worlds 'inspired' is just a plain rip off.
Despite the huge problems and the simplicity independence day is an enjoyable if dim witted film.
