Review of Independence Day (1996) by Dan F — 23 Aug 2013
90's blockbusters of this scale were maybe 1 or 2 a year, so although there are superior films that have fallen into obscurity since, Independence Day holds up in memory as a real event film. A solid ensemble having a lot of fun, and devoid of any irony or cynicism; ID4 has a refreshing united human race vibe rather than violent American patriotism ( although the USA is obviously leading the charge), and the special effects- and standout creature design- are top notch with only a few matting shots and computer monitors feeling a bit dated.
Entertaining stuff, maybe a little overlong.
