Review of Independence Day (1996) by Adam S — 30 Nov 2013
This film is never going to win an Oscar or attract a thespian crowd, but it doesn't need to. Films like Independence Day, first and foremost, need to be fun, and in that respect, ID ticks every box.
Starring a list of names including Will Smith, Bill Pullman, Jeff Goldblum, Vivica A. Fox, Randy Quaid, Judd Hirsch, Harvey Fierstein, Brent Spiner and Harry Connick Jr., Independence Day has some cheesy but amusing dialouge and epic set pieces to please the crowd.
It does tend to be a bit jingoistic at times, which can be uncomfortable for the international viewer, but other than that, just a fun film.
