Independence Day is a silly movie that manages to be very entertaining. The cast is great, and the effects are marvelous. The action is exciting, and this is a very entertaining summer blockbuster. Many of the characters are very generic, with only a few getting much backstory.
The plot is very cliché, but it's presented in such a fun way. The climax is exciting, and the whole movie is a blast. Independence Day gets 3/5 stars (B-).
