Review of Indecent Proposal (1993) by Kim C — 17 Apr 2010
Here is the ludicrous premise: a billionaire offers a married couple a million dollars to spend one night with the wife. Director Adrian Lyne, who only makes movies that titillate us with sex while offering a morality lesson, expects us to imagine what we would do in this situation.
Robert Redford is the billionaire; Woody Harrelson and Demi Moore are the struggling young married couple who reluctantly accept the offer while vacationing in Las Vegas. The actions and behavior that transpires is expected.
Marital jealousy and insecurity are discussed at the most superficial level. What boggles the mind is that Lyne and producer Sherry Lansing expect us to take the plot seriously. This material was handled more effectively as farce in "Honeymoon in Vegas.
" Nevertheless, the movie was a hit. One reaction we ponder is how many billionaires are there who look like Robert Redford but can't get a date? Written by Amy Holden Jones. With Billy Bob Thornton, Oliver Platt, Seymour Cassel, Rip Taylor.
