Review of Indecent Proposal (1993) by Daniel K — 08 Dec 2009
1: A fairly pitiful excuse for a film. There are so many things wrong with it it's a bit difficult to know where to begin. The tone is severely inconsistent and often wrong. There are so many scenes filled with oddly gushing romantic music it makes one question the sanity of those involved with the production.
The architecture of the picture is all wrong as well. Who wants to see Redford play this type of character? He's far too likeable to really pull it off. We never quite believe he's capable of the things he does and we really don't want Moore to end up with Harrelson anyway.
It usually isn't a plus if the audience is disappointed with the ending. The script is ridiculous enough even without all the other missteps. It just skips through large chunks of the story and doesn't seem plausible in the other sections.
It had me going for a while, but in the end it more than lost me. This could definitely have used more than a few test screenings, followed by a few rounds of rewrites, reshoots, and edits. Of course, it could have just used a different writer, different director, and different cast to begin with.
