Review of Indecent Proposal (1993) by Jack W — 12 Jan 2011
Take an incendiary topic, something taboo in contemporary society, throw in a couple stars, and announce that you have some very risquà (C) footage and you should do well. This film may have made money but it is entirely deplorable in regards to content.
Not one of the three main characters is likable, in fact I wanted to punch Woody Harrelson's David. Redford has the smarmy businessman down, and his performance is good. But take away the gratuitous sex between Harrelson and Moore and the constant gaze that Lyne affects on Moore's rather beautiful sculpted body and that's it.
The story is completely implausible, especially when aged fifteen plus years. Today, most couples are cashing checks in their head upon an offer such as the one Redford makes. It's dreck like this which forces me to watch classics over and again, so I guess there are some redeeming qualities huh?
