Review of Indecent Proposal (1993) by The Critic ( — 06 Oct 2013
Despite waves of silliness, Adrian Lyne's film is an altogether guilty pleasure of Mills & Boon trash dressed up as a sophisticated question of morality. The film is given clout by its strong cast; Robert Redford possesses a cool charisma, Woody Harrelson competently depicts a range of emotions and Demi Moore, the commodity in-between them, switches from both warm to icy and back again under the weight of her conundrum.
Central characters David and Diana Murphy (Harrelson and Moore) travel on a far-reaching arch that would perhaps be more suited to daytime television, but audiences flocked to see it, despite a majority of critics advising them otherwise, and the film's core question still holds relevance and intrigue.
