Review of Incredibles 2 (2018) by Carlos P — 15 Jun 2018
Saw Incredibles 2 at its first local IMAX showing. So glad I went to see it! If only Disney could do as good a job with Star Wars as Pixar did with the Incredibles, then the Star Wars fan base would be growing, not shrinking.
Spoilers really aren't a concern - this movie is great because of the way the characters develop and play off against one another. It has a strong family theme - with TWO parents - and it beautifully depicts the challenges of raising kids and keeping a family together while individuals are under pressure to tear the family apart.
But don't just write off this movie as a cute family pic - it also happens to be a great superhero movie. Supers are simultaneously great and flawed. The "with great power comes great responsibility" theme is present without being sappy. Action scenes are fun and exciting without being overdone. Instead of relying on big explosions, the suspense is built based on empathy for the characters. Nostalgia is present in this movie, but it doesn't dominate it.
Overall, it is excellently written, acted, drawn and presented. It is truly a movie for all audiences.
